Academic freedom is not only the freedom of academics but also the freedom of those whose struggles academics have documented and brought to wider public attention. We stand in solidarity with the youth Adivasi activists and human rights defenders who made it their life's work to struggle for their constitutional right to remain the custodians of their jal, jangal, jameen (waters, lands, forests) and ensure continuity of environmental balance as well as food sovereignty for future generations. While the Indian state has through unconstitutional means has incarcerated many activists, their clarion call for saving their lands and so also our environmental freedoms continue to resound, including through the statements on this page, while we keep all eyes on Adivasi regions until their release.
